Before their placement in Florence, the original lions adorned the Villa Medici in Rome from 1598, commissioned by Ferdinando I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. One lion dates back to the 2nd century, while its pair was sculpted by Flaminio Vacca to complement the ancient statue. These lions are celebrated as symbols of the Medici family, who famously invested in art and culture, fostering an environment where humanism and creativity flourished. ANTIQUE CAVIAR DISH

A caviar dish from the early 20th century.

Serve caviar in an extravagant way with this charming dish, featuring a dome that elegantly rotates to reveal one of the world’s most prestigious delicacies. Perfect for hosting a bohemian gathering and impressing your guests, or for treating yourself to a royal indulgence on a special occasion. This dish is sure to be the finishing touch for any luxurious table setting.

Caviar wasn’t always considered a prestigious food, even though it has been enjoyed by humans for at least 2,000 years. Back then, however, it wasn’t treated as a gourmet delicacy. This changed during the Middle Ages, when caviar was used as a meat substitute, and to extend its shelf life, it began to be preserved in salt. This turned it into a delicacy that gained popularity among the aristocracy of the time, especially in Russia.

After the October Revolution of 1917, many Russians fled to France, bringing their beloved delicacy with them. The French quickly embraced the imported treat, recognizing it as a luxurious and glamorous dish best paired with champagne. From then on, caviar became an extremely popular luxury food, though its newfound fame almost led to the extinction of the best sturgeon species for caviar — the beluga. Fortunately, its extinction was prevented in the mid-1950s, when farmed caviar was successfully introduced to the market. Thanks to this, we can still enjoy this exquisite and prestigious delicacy today.

Dimensions: 18 × 16 × 14,5 cm

Weight: 0,5 kg
