ANTIQUE CHAIR
Antique chair, made in England between 1750 and 1850.
This chair is a typical example from the late 18th to early 19th century. It features a drawer under the seat, providing storage for various items. Due to its solidity, it's incredibly eye-catching, making it an excellent piece for highlighting and enriching a space. The chair itself boasts other wonderful details that only such an old piece can have. These include wooden pegs, which often replaced expensive iron nails in those times since they were hand-forged. Another detail is the beautifully patinated wood, which, upon touch, tells the story of its rich history. Most captivating is its shape, as the chair is not precisely formed and exhibits many asymmetrical details, lending it a playful naivety and confirming that it was entirely handmade, without the aid of mechanized tools. The story behind the chair with a drawer is also fascinating, as there are several versions. One story suggests that such chairs were made on farms in England for those assisting in lambing. The person would sit on this chair, waiting for the lambing, with a drawer under the seat containing a Bible and whisky to sustain them. These chairs were typically made by carpenters not accustomed to furniture-making, which explains the asymmetrical shape. Another tale suggests that such chairs were found in wealthier households, known as "salt thrones" as they stored salt, a prestigious spice at the time, in the drawer. Sitting on such a chair during a meal signified a special honor, as being seated above the salt was a mark of distinction. Thus, this chair is a true throne of history, capable of telling many stories of the past and inspiring us with its grandeur. Dimensions: 97 x 57 x 50 cm Weight: 18 kg The chair is excellently preserved.ART DECO ENAMEL ADVERTISING SIGN

STATUE OF IMMACULATE VIRGIN MARY “CAP I POTA”
Statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, made in Spain in the 19th century.
This beautiful statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary is an exceptional work crafted by Catalan artists in the 19th century. The statue is wooden and polychromed. Such statues of saints were primarily made for processions, and since naturalism has been highly desirable for religious images since the Baroque period, they were made for the purpose of dressing, as clothing adds a level of realism that is difficult to achieve solely through carving. The Catalan term for this type of statue is "Cap i Pota," which means "head and feet," as in such statues, the head, feet, and hands are intricately crafted, while the torso is not as much, as it was covered by clothing. This particular statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary was likely intended for home worship, as indicated by its size. The symbolism of the statue represents the Virgin Mary standing on a shining sphere – the moon, which symbolizes heavenly glory, while her foot rests on the head of a serpent, symbolizing sin over which Mary prevails. VICTORIAN TAXIDERMY ROSELLA PARROT
Rosella parrot under a glass dome, circa 1880.
The presented rosella parrot comes from the 19th century, a time when placing taxidermied animals under glass domes was a popular practice, particularly during the Victorian era. This tradition stemmed from a passion for natural history collections known as "cabinets of curiosities," where people would gather and display natural wonders such as minerals, exotic plants, and animals. Glass domes were often used to protect and showcase these collectible items, especially taxidermied animals. The popularity of this practice grew alongside a rising interest in natural sciences, fueled by major scientific discoveries and expeditions to exotic lands, which introduced new animal species. These collections reflected a sense of awe and fascination with nature, and they were part of the Victorian obsession with documenting and classifying the world. Taxidermy during this period was not only a scientific practice but also became a form of home decoration. Taxidermied animals under glass domes were displayed in homes as symbols of refined taste and education. The domes were designed to protect the specimens from dust and damage, allowing for long-term preservation. Within these glass enclosures, taxidermied animals were often arranged in elaborate scenes that could depict them in their natural habitats – as with the presented rosella parrot – or sometimes in purely artistic or imaginative settings. These exhibits were intricately crafted and carefully arranged to create the illusion of realism. However, by the end of the 19th century, this trend gradually faded as aesthetic tastes changed, as did the relationship with nature and animals. Dimensions: 40 x 34 x 16 cm Weight: 1.5 kg The rosella parrot exhibit under the glass dome is in excellent condition.TABLE LAMP TITANIC

Bronze statue of a French politician, made in the late 19th century.
This bronze statue was created after 1889, a time when France was experiencing genuine enthusiasm surrounding the defense of Cherbourg. During the annual naval maneuvers, the coastal defense warships Le Tonnant and Le Vengeur, stationed off the coast of Cherbourg, successfully repelled a simulated attack by larger and more powerful vessels. This boosted national confidence at a time when there was widespread concern about naval strength — the so-called “naval scares.”
The connection of the statue to this event is confirmed by the inscription on the base, where the names of both ships are engraved. Such statues were displayed by prominent French figures in their salons as an expression of their political stance and as a symbol of their nation’s technological power.
Thus, this piece is not merely decorative, but a historical object reflecting a specific moment in French history, making it significant for both collectors and history enthusiasts.
