BANCI FIRENZE CEILING LIGHT, 1960s

185,00

Ceiling light made in the 1960s by Banci Firenze.

This ceiling fixture captivates with its natural elements, featuring oak leaves and ferns incorporated into the design. The gilding has developed a beautiful patina over the years, adding even more charm. The result is an exceptional decorative and functional piece, perfect for any interior.

Banci Firenze takes its name from its founder, Giuseppe Banci, who first opened the company in 1899, initially as a shop and later expanding with a workshop dedicated to restoring chandeliers and mirrors. They soon became renowned as highly skilled craftsmen, working in traditional ways and using the same materials as in the past. The district in which Banci was located had, since medieval times, been known as a guild of artists and artisans, famous worldwide for its master blacksmiths. Thanks to this guild, the city of Florence grew into an economic and artistic powerhouse, attracting notable artists and craftsmen.

Inspired by the city’s history and by the knowledge gathered through years of restoration work, Giuseppe Banci began producing the first “Banci” chandeliers in the 1930s together with his two children, Gastone and Ghita. Although Gastone passed away young, the craft did not end there—Ghita continued running the business, and later Gastone’s three children also joined. It was this generation that elevated the Banci name to a new level, expanding into international markets and creating new lighting models. This led to new collections and unique pieces, developed in a flourishing symbiotic relationship between one-of-a-kind creations and small-series production.

Today, Jacopo Banci works alongside his father, Massimo Banci, making Banci a company that has maintained the cultural heritage and artisanal pride of Florence for over 100 years and across four generations.

PRAYER BOOK THAT STOPPED A BULLET

375,00

Prayer book “Rette deine Seele!” (Save Your Soul), Klagenfurt, 1898.

At first glance, this small pocket prayer book appears to be just an old devotional volume – yet hidden within its leather cover lies a bullet hole that pierced almost the entire book, silently speaking of its remarkable history and most likely of a miracle it once created.

If we turn back more than a century, to the time of World War I, such books – especially Bibles and prayer books – were often given by families to soldiers departing for war. They were gifted as spiritual protection and as a reminder of home. It is now well known that soldiers themselves also wished to keep such books close, believing they could shield them from death. For that reason, these volumes were frequently carried in inner breast pockets, as lucky charms. The presented prayer book is almost certainly one of those rare examples of faith and fortune intertwined, a witness to the small miracles these books once worked in the midst of war.

This prayer book stands as a striking symbol of survival, and because of its history and the story it carries, it represents an exceptional historical artifact.

Dimensions: 14 × 9 × 3 cm

Weight: 0,15 kg

The prayer book is well preserved.

L. VIDAL ABUNDANTIA

460,00

Statue of the Goddess Abundantia, created by French sculptor Louis Vidal, second half of the 19th century.

A beautiful bronze sculpture depicting Abundantia, the Roman goddess of abundance, prosperity, and wealth. She holds a basket filled with grapes and fish, symbolizing the cornucopia – the horn of plenty – while she is accompanied by two cherubs and a swan, representing the richness of earth and water, fertility, nourishment, happiness, and protection of the home.

Such figures were often placed near entrance doors to invite abundance into the household and were also commonly positioned near safes or cash registers, as Abundantia was believed to protect wealth and bring prosperity.

The sculptor himself is equally fascinating: Louis Vidal (1831–1892), also known as dit Vidal le Borgne ("Vidal the Blind"), was a visually impaired French sculptor who trained himself to sculpt through touch alone. Despite his physical limitation, he created works of remarkable anatomical precision and expressive detail, becoming a respected and admired artist of the 19th century. He is best known for his realist and neoclassical style, as well as his animal sculptures (notably bulls and horses) and collaborations with greats such as Auguste Rodin.

This statue is therefore an exceptional collector's piece, rich in symbolism and offering the rare chance to own a work by one of the most intriguing French artists of the 19th century.

Dimensions: 34 × 21 × 18 cm

Weight: 5,8 kg
