    VINTAGE TV LAMP

    86,00 €

Vintage TV lamp, from the mid-20th century.

A pair of exceptional wooden desk lamps that once served as an accessory to the television. Even today, you can use them for the same purpose or decorate your table or shelf with them, as they emit an atmospheric light, making them excellent decorative and ambient pieces.

Have you ever heard of a TV lamp?

In the 1950s, the presence of television in middle-class households increased. Even in its infancy, television was already showing as a central part of the modern home. “TV” was changing lives in the same way personal computers did three decades later, and like most technological inventions, there were concerns. Many feared that watching television in a darkened room could cause eye damage. Considering that consumers were accustomed to watching movies in darkened cinemas, it was entirely natural for the tradition to transfer to home viewing. Moreover, the earliest televisions emitted relatively dim light, making viewing in low light almost necessary.

Soon, many televisions were adorned with a new accessory: a ceramic, illuminated figurine… the TV lamp. It was believed that the ambient light provided by these lamps reduced eye strain and allowed viewing without guilt. TV lamps soon became a necessary addition to the family television. Although they dominated as favorite household items for only about 10 years, their design significance continues to influence today.

TV lamps were available in thousands of variations from hundreds of manufacturers, and while they were made from various materials, the vast majority were ceramic, coated with glossy glaze in one of the decade’s popular colors. Most of these charming household sculptures depicted members of the animal kingdom (horses, deer, dogs, birds, domestic cats, and the ever-popular panther), some were human figures, while others were merely exercises in abstract design.

    Dimensions: 25 x 16.5 cm

    Weight: 300 g

The TV lamp is excellently preserved, without cracks in the glaze. For E14 bulb. Price is for one.

    COURTING CANDLE HOLDER

    24,00 €

    Courting Candle Holder.

Legend has it that between the 17th and 18th centuries, fathers used this type of candle holder when suitors came to court their daughters. It served as a boundary between the lovers. When the candle burned down to the top of the holder, it was time for the suitor to leave immediately. However, the father could adjust the height of the candle based on his feelings towards the suitor. He could extinguish the candle immediately or add a new one, depending on what he deemed necessary. Thus, the candle served as a silent but clear reminder to the suitor of when the date should end. This practice aimed to teach daughters to respect their parents' judgment and encourage suitors to respond to the father's discretion. An interesting example of a candle holder that not only serves as a decorative piece but also carries a story and a connection to the past. Dimensions: 16 x 12 cm Weight: 132.3 g The candle holder is in excellent condition.
