    Polychromed wooden sculpture of the Enthroned Virgin and Jesus. Central Europe, probably late 15th or early 16th century.

    An exceptional wooden sculpture depicting the Virgin Mary seated on a throne with the Christ Child resting on her lap, holding a book in His hand. Sculptures of this type are known by the Latin term Sedes Sapientiae, meaning “Throne of Wisdom.” This title represents one of the oldest appellations of the Virgin Mary. The concept is that Mary serves as the throne upon which Christ sits, Christ being understood in Christian theology as the embodiment of Divine Wisdom (Sapientia Dei).

    The medieval character of this sculpture is further reflected in the depiction of Christ. Rather than being portrayed as a typical child, as became common in later centuries, He appears as a miniature adult. This follows the medieval theological idea that Christ was, from birth, the perfect God and Teacher.

    The sculpture displays finely carved details, revealing the hand of a skilled and accomplished craftsman. The polychromy itself bears witness to the passage of time through later historical overpaintings and restorations. The various layers of paint allow us to trace, almost visually, the centuries through which this remarkable object has survived.

    An interesting object from bygone times that reminds us of the dark past of humanity. Torture devices like this one were popular since the Middle Ages and were used to humiliate, torture, and control convicts and slaves. The collar was placed around a person's neck, preventing normal movement, lying down, and overall comfort. Similar collars were also used on dogs, but without a lock, only with a buckle. In this case, the collar served to protect a dog guarding livestock from potential wolf attacks.     A solid table lamp that will be an excellent choice for any table, allowing you to adjust its height and thus ensure excellent lighting in any position. Kazuhide Takahama (1930–2010) was born on the Japanese island of Kyushu. In 1953, he graduated in architecture from the Tokyo Institute of Technology.At the age of 27, he became a lecturer at the same university and got his first job as a designer: he was responsible for setting up the Japanese pavilion for the XI Triennale in Milan in 1957. On this occasion, he met Dino Gavina. This first meeting was a turning point in his career and the beginning of a fruitful collaboration and deep friendship. Before returning to Japan, Kazuhide Takahama designed Dino Gavina's Naeko sofa. While staying in Japan, he was a professor at the university and curator for architectural and design projects, but still maintained contacts with Gavina, who finally persuaded him to move to Italy. There were numerous collaborations with Italian design companies such as Gavina, Simon, Paradisoterrestre, B&B, Sirrah (later incorporated by Guzzini), to name just a few. His professional activity was not limited to designing furniture and lighting: he designed interior and exterior spaces and oversaw the renovation of private residences and public works. Among them, the facade and VIP lounge of the Guglielmo Marconi airport, and the canopies of the bus station in Bologna.     SPRING-LOADED CANDLE HOLDER DITMAR

    A rare example of a perfectly preserved spring-loaded candle holder. The candle holder, with its spring, allows you to adjust the height of the candle so that, regardless of the candle's length, it always stays at the same height. An interesting addition to a festive table or a shelf where you can always admire it. Karl Rudolf Ditmar, the founder of the Ditmar company, was born on May 3, 1818, in Prenzlau - Brandenburg. He came to Vienna in 1839. During a business trip to Paris, he is said to have encountered the still-controversial, heavy-working moderator lamp. Improving these lamps soon became his main concern. On August 5, 1840, Ditmar founded a trading company dealing with oil lamps, cups, and lacquered tin. The next step was establishing a workshop for lamp repairs, followed by an attempt at in-house production. Together with his brother Friedrich, whom he invited to Vienna, Rudolf led the company as "Gebrüder Ditmar" in 1841. For this purpose, a "state permit for the production of lacquered tin and zinc composite goods" was issued, creating a legal basis for the first lamp factory in Vienna and Austria. During this time, the brothers succeeded in developing the "Viennese moderator lamp," a spring-loaded lamp that was both inexpensive and reliable due to its adjustable oil supply. After the death of his brother Friedrich in 1858, "Gebrüder" was removed from the company's name, and it became Lampen Fabrik R. Ditmar.     CHANDELIER J. T. KALMAR “SONNE”

    The "Sonne" chandelier, meaning "sun" in German, is an interesting modernist fixture whose design seamlessly integrates into any contemporary space. Austrian designer and entrepreneur Julius Theodor Kalmar was born in 1884 in Vienna to Julius August Kalmar, the founder of the eponymous company specializing in chandeliers and other objects made of cast bronze. Growing up surrounded by design due to his father and their company, Julius Theodor gained rich design knowledge from an early age. His educational journey led him to the Birmingham School of Art and the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, where he studied under the mentorship of the Secessionist architect Josef Hoffmann. After completing his studies, Julius Theodor joined his father's company in 1906 and took it over in 1913. Under his leadership, the company shifted away from the classical design of the time. Kalmar developed his distinctive design aesthetic, emphasizing the integration of form and function and combining classical traditions with innovative ideas. By the mid-1920s, his products were among the most sought after. In the 1930s, Kalmar began collaborating with the Austrian Werkbund, creating a series of glass lights with a purist aesthetic. Throughout his career, he collaborated with renowned architects such as Oskar Strnad, Josef Frank, and Oskar Wlach. In the last decade of his life, he designed numerous light collections, including the popular Atomic collection. Kalmar passed away in 1968, but the Kalmar company continues to create luxury lighting to this day. Kalmar lights can be found in prestigious locations like the Kremlin Presidential Palace and the Burj Tower in Dubai.
