PLIA CHAIR

165,00 €

Plia chair, manufactured in the late 1960s. Designed by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli.

The iconic folding Plia chair was first introduced at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1967 and immediately garnered immense public enthusiasm. Its revolutionary folding mechanism offered a completely new concept for folding chairs. The main advantages of this exceptional chair are its lightweight construction, adaptability, and the ability to be used both indoors and outdoors. The folding mechanism was entirely novel and highly innovative for its time. The chair relies on one of its metal discs to connect the backrest, seat, and legs, allowing it to be folded into a compact, flat shape just five centimeters thick. Speaking about this innovative concept, designer Piretti referred to it as the “Thonet of the 20th century.” He explained, “If you look at a typical folding chair from the side profile, you’ll see it has three joints. I found a way to condense that triangular mechanism into a single joint that looked so elegant and beautiful that I wanted it to be fully visible.” Additionally, the chairs can be stacked on top of each other or hung on a specially designed wall hook when folded. The Plia chair was not only revolutionary in its folding mechanism but also in its use of plastic, a material that was still finding its place in the furniture industry at the time. Combining a metal frame with a plastic seat and backrest, the Plia chair became a symbol of 1970s design. It is also partially connected to our region, as it received the BIO5 award at the Ljubljana Biennial in 1971 and another award in Germany in 1973. Its iconic status is further evidenced by its inclusion in exhibitions at museums of modern art, such as the legendary Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

The Plia chair is an ideal seat for any household. With its modern appearance and materials, it complements contemporary interiors perfectly, including apartments, terraces, cafes, and offices. Being foldable and incredibly compact in its folded form, it is ideal as an auxiliary chair for any home, as it can be easily stored until its next use. However, we are confident that this cult chair will find its place as an everyday chair, as its vibrancy and unmistakable design will bring a special charm to any space.

ERGONOMIC CHAIR TAN SAD

320,00 €

Ergonomic chair "Do More," manufactured by Tan Sad in England for Ahrend around 1920.

A special, rare, vintage ergonomic chair in its original condition. It was used by employees of the Opcina tramway in Opicina, making it not only an interesting industrial chair but also one with a fascinating history and story. Ahrend introduced itself to the Dutch market with a series of chairs and tables called "doe meer" (do more). They were manufactured in the Tan Sad factory in England, known for producing the first ergonomic chairs. In 1920, comfort was a significant luxury, and factory workers often sat on benches without backrests. The "Do More" chair was, therefore, far ahead of its time. As seen in advertisements from that era, it promised workers: "The ideal chair for the working person. For use in offices, drafting rooms, laboratories, for operating office machines and telephones, etc. The right support for your work." Due to its specially designed frame – the seat is adjustable in height, and the backrest can be adjusted in height and angle – it is a chair on which you can sit for hours without any issues, while also encouraging proper posture. Dimensions: 82 x 54 x 46 cm Weight: 9.2 kg The chair is in good condition, and although it could be reupholstered, the original cover adds to its sentimental value.

ANTIQUE WRITING DESK

6.400,00 €

Writing desk, crafted in 1885 in the vicinity of Ptuj, is opulent, top-notch, and rare—adjectives that aptly describe this exceptional writing desk made in the Neo-Renaissance style.

However, the most extraordinary aspect of this piece lies in its history. This is a desk with Slovenian origins, created by the hands of a Slovenian master, as indicated by inscriptions on the backside of the drawer. Moreover, it has traversed its entire history on Slovenian soil, as evidenced by a stamp on the inner side of the door, where we can read that, at some point in its past, it was part of a municipal office. Thus, this desk is, in essence, a part of Slovenian furniture heritage, making it a rare gem even in the collection of the most discerning antique collectors. Nevertheless, it is, first and foremost, a splendid desk ready to shine in your office or a corner of your home where you enjoy creating, writing, and working. Undoubtedly, it is a top-notch acquisition and an exceptional opportunity for anyone who truly values Slovenian artisanal heritage and for those whose faces light up with a smile at the sight of such an extraordinary piece of furniture. Dimensions: Exact dimensions are not specified. Weight: 28 kg The desk has been meticulously restored with precision and a nod to the old masters. The restoration pays homage to our ancestors, preserving the desk's history and the traces that time has left on it.
