INVENTIVELY REPAIRED GLASS

Inventively repaired glass.

This glass is something truly special, not because of the glass itself, but because of the repair that was made on it. An inventive repair was done when the glass broke, and its owner clearly valued it so much that they repaired it with beautifully woven wire. Most interestingly, despite the cracks, the glass still holds water. A wonderful unique piece of the past that will be an exceptional addition to any collection. Inventive repairs are highly valued by many collectors and museums, which often dedicate entire museum collections to such repairs.

Inventive repairs are repairs made when an object is damaged. In Japan, such repairs are called “kintsugi,” where it has long been believed that if something is damaged and has a history, it becomes even more beautiful and magnificent. Therefore, damages are often filled with gold. This shows us that people used to respect their belongings much more, and when objects were damaged, they were restored rather than discarded and replaced with new ones as we often do today. Even wealthier people didn’t just discard and replace things; instead, they entrusted the damaged object to a craftsman who could not only restore the object but also add additional decorative value with the repair.
