Vanity mirror, made in Austria, circa 1900.

An exceptionally decorative vanity mirror, set on a richly sculpted base made of painted terracotta. The base features an elegant female figure seated on clouds, leaning gently toward the moon. The details are masterfully crafted – from the delicate facial expression to the texture of the clouds and the undulating base. The mirror is original, with a beveled edge that adds to its refined appearance. On the back, there is an impressed mark reading “reproduction reserve,” indicating that reproduction is not permitted without permission.

Satsuma is a type of Japanese pottery originating from the Satsuma province. Today, it can be divided into two different categories: the original plain dark clay from early Satsuma, produced in Satsuma around 1600, and elaborately decorated export Satsuma in ivory color, which began to be produced in the nineteenth century in various Japanese cities. The presented piece is from a later period, but since the manufacturer's mark is not visible or cannot be found, the exact age is challenging to determine.
