Satsuma vase.

Satsuma is a type of Japanese pottery originating from the Satsuma province. Today, it can be divided into two different categories: the original plain dark clay from early Satsuma, produced in Satsuma around 1600, and elaborately decorated export Satsuma in ivory color, which began to be produced in the nineteenth century in various Japanese cities. The presented piece is from a later period, but since the manufacturer's mark is not visible or cannot be found, the exact age is challenging to determine. Dimensions: 46.5 cm Weight: 2.14 kg The vase is somewhat worn; hand-painted decoration is worn, and there is a minor crack at the top of the vase, which does not continue or in any way affect its function. Still, it remains a beautiful decorative piece with a rich history.

Courting Candle Holder.

Legend has it that between the 17th and 18th centuries, fathers used this type of candle holder when suitors came to court their daughters. It served as a boundary between the lovers. When the candle burned down to the top of the holder, it was time for the suitor to leave immediately. However, the father could adjust the height of the candle based on his feelings towards the suitor. He could extinguish the candle immediately or add a new one, depending on what he deemed necessary. Thus, the candle served as a silent but clear reminder to the suitor of when the date should end. This practice aimed to teach daughters to respect their parents' judgment and encourage suitors to respond to the father's discretion. An interesting example of a candle holder that not only serves as a decorative piece but also carries a story and a connection to the past.
