Saint Barbara Statue from the 19th century.

An exceptionally well-carved statue of Saint Barbara. Saint Barbara is the patron saint of all those whose work is threatened by sudden death. In our region, she is best known as the patron saint of miners. However, she is also the patron saint of farmers, architects, construction workers, roofers, masons, foundry workers, blacksmiths, stonemasons, artillerymen, carpenters, gravediggers, bell-ringers, cooks, butchers, prisoners, firefighters, the dying, as well as protection against storms and fire. She is also the patron saint of tunnels, so there is a custom to create a small altar with Saint Barbara before the construction of a tunnel, as an invocation for the safety of all involved in the construction.
