Vase made in the Italian town of Deruta, in the first half of the 20th century.

This attention is strongly felt when examining its precise craftsmanship, with carefully added decorations such as flowers and leaves. Deruta, located in the hills of Umbria, has been globally renowned for the production of artistic ceramics since the Middle Ages. Deruta is still today the center of Italy's largest production of artistic majolica. Artistic production had exceptional opportunities to showcase its pottery masterpieces from the earliest periods: in the Assisi monastery. In the Franciscan archives in Assisi, documents from 1358 and 1359 were found, mentioning the potter and wholesale merchant Cecce d'Alessandro, who sold hundreds of ceramic pieces to monasteries. He operated based on his principles, without adhering to the norms and designs of his time. Engaging in various aesthetic disciplines, including painting, drawing, graphic design, and product design, Fornasetti reached the height of his creativity in the 1950s. Encouraged by Gia Ponti, he opened his studio in Milan, where he designed and crafted everyday objects enriched with decorations that brought art into the homes of ordinary people. Recognized as an artist ahead of his time, Piero Fornasetti made a significant contribution to the renewal of taste and the creation of a unique and immediately recognizable visual language in contemporary culture.
