The Frisian clock, also known as stoeltjesklok or chair clock, gets its name from the platform resembling a chair on which it stands. The production of such clocks began in Frisia in the early 18th century. Although popular primarily in the Netherlands, where they were often hung in hallways so that everyone could hear their chimes, they were also highly sought after in North Africa and Indonesia. By 1857, they were a significant export item, but their popularity began to decline thereafter.
This clock is typically richly decorated with brass details and hand-painted numerals on the dial. Adorning the sides of the clock are mermaids. It is an exceptional ornament for your home, not just a mere decoration but also an object with significant historical significance.
